Chase and Paul took a beautiful Misano Blue 2020 BMW Z4 sDrive30i on a drive down the Las Vegas strip in November. You see, they had made plans to attend the 2020 SEMA convention, but like most everything in 2020, the convention was scrapped due to COVID-19.
Nonetheless, the guys revved up the engine and headed for the famous drive in front of the Sin City casinos. The BMW was a nice car, but didn’t have the punch of the other version of the Z4, the M40i. See, the sDrive30i is the more tame version of the BMW roadster. It was every bit an enjoyable ride, with few reasons for the guys to decide it wouldn’t be a car they would add to their garage.

2020 BMW Z4 sDrive30i
The 2020 BMW Z4 sDrive30i is the entry-level version of BMW’s two-seat roadster, powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Power goes to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission, and BMW quoted a 0–60 mph time of about 5.2 seconds. It may not have the six-cylinder punch of the Z4 M40i, but 255 horsepower in a small, rear-wheel-drive convertible is hardly a recipe for boredom.
The 2020 Z4 also marked a return to a traditional soft top, replacing the folding hardtop used on the previous generation. The car shares much of its underlying architecture with the Toyota GR Supra, although the Z4 remains very much a BMW in character, with a more comfort-oriented roadster feel and, obviously, the rather important ability to make the roof disappear. For someone looking for a modern two-seat convertible that can handle daily driving while still being entertaining on a winding road, the sDrive30i offers a nice balance without requiring the jump to the more expensive M40i.
The car shown here is finished in Misano Blue Metallic, BMW paint code C1D, and it may be one of the best colors offered on this generation of Z4. It’s a bright, saturated blue that tends to change quite a bit depending on the light—looking almost electric in direct sunlight and considerably deeper in the shade.
The Misano name also has a little motorsports flavor to it. Misano, Italy, is home to the Misano World Circuit, and BMW has a long history of giving its colors names connected to famous racing locations. Whether you’re buying the Z4 strictly for its handling or simply because you want a convertible that doesn’t disappear into a parking lot full of gray SUVs, Misano Blue certainly helps.
